Xbox 360 Sales Jump 38 Percent

Lifetime sales reach 44.6 million units worldwide.

Xbox 360 sales grew 38 percent during Microsoft's first-quarter 2011 fiscal year, which ended on Sept. 30, 2010.

The software giant reported it sold 2.8 million consoles, up from the 2.1 million sold in the first-quarter of fiscal 2010. To date, Microsoft has sold 44.6 million units worldwide since the console's launch in 2005.

Halo Reach also continued to see strong sales. Since its release in September, the game generated approximately $350 million of revenue during the quarter. Unit sales were not disclosed.

Halo: Reach saw first-day sales top $200 million in the United States and Europe.

Microsoft also said it saw "strong" Xbox Live membership growth in the quarter, but did not provide any data on the number of users.
