Rock Band 2 Song Export Details Revealed

For a $9.99 licensing fee, Rock Band 3 owners can import nearly all of Rock Band 2's 84 tracks.

Rock Band 3 lands on store shelves today, and developer Harmonix just revealed the song export details for Rock Band 2.

In order to import your Rock Band 2 tracks into this year's game, first you'll need to track down the code from the back of the Rock Band 2 instruction manual. From there, simply load up Rock Band 3, go to "Get More Songs" in the main menu, and select the "Redeem Code" option. Then just enter your Rock Band 2 code, pay the $9.99 licensing fee, and you should be all set.

Don't panic if you've managed to lose your Rock Band 2 manual in the two years since the game debuted; EA is offering an export code replacement program. You can score new set of digits either by heading to the official support site for the game or by calling (650) 628-1001.

Now for the bad news: Not all of Rock Band 2's 84-song setlist made the cut for Rock Band 3. As with the first Rock Band, a handful of tracks from Rock Band 2 are non-exportable. That list includes the following:
  • "Let There Be Rock" by AC/DC
  • "Any Way You Want It" by Journey
  • "Battery" by Metallica
  • "Give It Away" by Red Hot Chili Peppers
  • "Spoonman" by Soundgarden
In addition, Rock Band Aide reports that the nine tracks from Harmonix-fronted bands in Rock Band 2 also aren't included in the export. Those tracks aren't lost forever, however, as the developer reportedly plans to release that content as a free download at a later date.
