Portal 2 Takes Top Spot on U.K. Charts

Valve's Portal sequel makes impressive debut.

Valve's teleportation puzzler found its way out of the test chamber and onto the top of the U.K. charts in its debut week, making Portal 2 the first title from the Bellevue, Washington-based studio to claim the all-formats top spot.

GfK-ChartTrack announced its weekly top 40 video games this morning, noting that Portal 2 has already outdone The Orange Box, which only made it as high as the No. 3 slot on the U.K. charts when it was released in 2007. Warner Bros. Interactive's Mortal Kombat reboot also landed an uppercut, claiming the No. 2 spot ahead of perennial chart-topper, Call of Duty: Black Ops.

The all-formats top 10:
1. Portal 2 (EA)
2. Mortal Kombat (Warner Bros)
3. Call of Duty: Black Ops (Activision Blizzard)
4. Zumba Fitness (505 Games)
5. Lego Star Wars III: The Clone Wars (Lucasarts)
6. Operation Flashpoint: Red River (Codemasters)
7. FIFA 11 (EA)
8. Crysis 2 (EA)
9. Wii Fit Plus (Nintendo)
10. Homefront (THQ)
Of note on Portal 2 sales: more than half of the copies moved in the U.K. last week (Steam's likely robust totals not included) were for the Xbox 360, with 35% going to the PlayStation 3, and the remainder on PC.
