Mythical gods in action-oriented, session-based arena combat.
Hi-Rez Studios is preparing to re-introduce the Tribes franchise to the gaming world, and the busy studio behind Global Agenda announced today it has another project up its sleeve: free-to-play DoTA-inspired action game, Smite.
Featuring mythical gods in session-based arena combat, Hi-Rez says Smite will separate itself from the DoTA pack by focusing less on real-time strategy and more on action.
"As a studio and as gamers, we love competitive multi-player games that reward teamwork and strategy," Todd Harris, Hi-Rez Studios COO, said in a statement. "With Smite, we draw inspiration from DoTA-style RTS titles, but leverage the Unreal 3 Engine to introduce original action oriented combat mechanics, great graphics, and a mythology-themed setting."
Balanced classes, sophisticated stat-tracking, and polished matchmaking are all in the works, Hi-Rez said, promising Smite will move team-oriented PvP forward in new directions. No release window was announced, but Hi-Rez said further details will be revealed soon.
