Sony, LightBox Interactive Announce Starhawk

Spiritual successor to Warhawk set for 2012 launch.

In 2007, PSOne flight combat game Warhawk was updated for the PlayStation 3 with ground vehicles and online multiplayer. The franchise will continue to evolve in 2012 with Starhawk, Sony has announced, a spiritual successor to Warhawk that adds foot combat and real-time strategy elements to the mix.

Now in development at LightBox Interactive (formerly Incognito), Starhawk will most notably allow players to call down a number of different base structures, vehicles, and weapons, RTS-style, to aid them in their sci-fi third-person shooter battles.

The rundown on Starhawk's storyline from LightBox:
Starhawk puts the player in the boots of Emmett Graves a hired gunslinger ostracized from society due to his own exposure to Rift Energy, leaving him partially mutated, but still able to retain his humanity. Taking on the powerful role of Graves the player will be drawn back to his home settlement of White Sands on the planet Dust to face a mysterious outlaw and his band of Outcast warriors to only find out that this assignment may mean more to him than he could ever imagine. He will soon find out that his family is involved in the clash between the Outcast and the Rifters and therefore must decide between those close to him and those he swore to protect.
Along with the full-fledged campaign, Sony promises state-of-the-art graphics and an online mode that puts 32 players in head-to-head battles. Split-screen and co-op and multiplayer will also be available.

Starhawk is a PlayStation 3 exclusive. The game is scheduled for launch sometime in 2012. Check out our Five Things You Need to Know feature for more details.
