Rumor: New Resident Evil Game Coming from Slant Six

SOCOM: Confrontation developer reportedly making team-based Resident Evil title.

According to a development document obtained by Kotaku, Capcom has drafted SOCOM: Confrontation developer Slant Six to create a brand-new Resident Evil title, codenamed Resident Evil: Raccoon City.

The document suggests that Raccoon City will be a "team-based" Resident Evil game, which would explain why Capcom would seek the know-how of a developer with experience making team-based shooters.

Nothing's actually been confirmed yet, but Kotaku also points out that Slant Six's official website currently explains they're working with a "new publishing partner on a world class franchise," and that a number of its employees have an unannounced "multiplayer action game" listed on their LinkedIn profile.

Capcom's current line on this rumor is a standard "Capcom does not respond to rumors and/or speculation," but this certainly seems to follow their self-professed new strategy of increasing output in their biggest franchises, and relying more on North American and European developers to do so. Capcom's already just released Dead Rising 2, developed by Vancouver-based Blue Castle Games, and they also have a Devil May Cry reboot in development at Cambridge-based Ninja Theory.
