"Reliable" tipster says a host of new Kinect action games will be announced during the awards.
If ever there was a franchise to prove to skeptical hardcore gamers that Microsoft's Kinect is indeed made for them as well, it would be Gears of War. Okay, probably Halo also, but Gears of War won't hurt one bit -- and according to an anonymous tipster, some form of Kinect-compatible Gears of War game will be announced during Spike TV's VGAs next month.
The rumor comes by way of IGN, who report that a "reliable" source tipped them off that Microsoft is planning to announce a number of "big action games" for Kinect during the awards show (an awards show that, it should be pointed out, tends to be aimed at hardcore gamers to begin with). Now, what isn't clear -- besides the fact that none of this is at all confirmed -- is whether this rumored Kinect Gears game will be something entirely new, or perhaps just Gears of War 1 or 2 rereleased with Kinect controls added in.
One thing that is clear, though, is that Gears of War 3 definitely will not have Kinect controls -- Cliff Bleszinski himself turned to Twitter to at least make that clarification.
But otherwise, Microsoft only gave IGN a standard "we can't comment on rumor or speculation" response, so it looks like we'll have to wait until the VGAs air on December 11 to find out how much of this turns out to be true.
