The FFXII hero makes his fighting game debut with an array of weapons and an Amano costume.
We shared first details on Vaan's appearance in Dissidia Duodecim Final Fantasy last week. Now get your first look at the character in our media gallery courtesy of the game's official site.
The Final Fantasy XII hero's fighting style is based around the concept of "Switch Attacker." Vaan is equipped with eight weapons, including katana blades, guns, and a crossbow. He can also fight with his bare hands. Each of his abilities is associated with a particular weapon. Vaan performs a special Switch Skill when he transitions from one weapon to another.
Due to some voice acting issues, there was a chance that Vaan wouldn't have made it into Dissidia at all. Square Enix recently revealed that the character's Japanese version will be voiced by Kenshyou Ono instead of the original's Kouhei Takeda due to some conflicts with Takeda's previous agency. Despite the voice actor conflict, they decided to keep Vaan in because they'd already started developing the game with the assumption that the character would be there, and because of fan demand.
In addition to Vaan screens, we've uploaded images of some of the latest costumes. Vaan, Cefca and Tina Branford all have alternative costumes based on Yoshitaka Amano artwork. Gabranth's newest costume has him dress like his twin brother Basch.

This week's Famitsu also provided a glimpse at a few additional gameplay systems. As with the original Dissidia, Duodecim lets you switch your character into EX Mode, which gives you added powers along with the ability to perform a powerful EX Burst move. Duodecim adds a new "Assist System," which lets you summon an ally into battle to attack or defend for you.
Newly introduced systems include EX Break, Assist Break and EX Revenge. EX Break is a method of canceling your opponent's EX Mode by performing an Assist Attack. Assist Break is a means of locking away your opponent's Assist summon ability by striking his Assist character when it's been called out.
Most intriguingly, EX Revenge is triggered when you try to switch into EX Mode while being attacked. Instead of actually switching into EX Mode, you'll perform EX Revenge, which slows time and allows you to beat down your foe.
All these should make Duodecim into a more technical gameplay experience.
