Report: Microsoft to Launch Halo: Combat Evolved Remake

Gaming site says the rumors are true, Halo HD will be here in time for holiday 2011.

In late November, industry chatter indicated Microsoft was quietly developing an HD remake of Bungie's Xbox classic, Halo: Combat Evolved. According to a new report, the rumors are true, and the remake will be on the shelves on November 15.

Joystiq, citing unnamed sources, reports that New Jersey-based Saber Interactive (TimeShift) is now working on Halo HD for Microsoft's 343 Studios.

"Sources explain that the re-release is not Bungie's 2001 Xbox game simply running at a higher resolution -- it's being remade with new art assets," Joystiq writes. "While Halo's audio will likely remain unaltered, the controls will allow for more recent Halo configurations."

Asked about Halo HD, a Microsoft spokesperson refused to comment on rumors and speculation. But other factors indicate the rumors are true: Microsoft does not have an announced Halo title planned for holiday 2011, and the company is sorely lacking in big name Xbox 360 exclusives this year. Further, November 15, 2011 marks the 10-year-anniversary of the original Halo's launch on November 15, 2001.
